Polish Strawberry Pasta – The Simple Summer Dish That Went Viral at Wimbledon

Jump to Recipe

For years, Polish strawberry pasta ( Makaron z truskawkami) was just… normal. It wasn’t trendy. It wasn’t controversial. It wasn’t discussed on international television.

It was simply a summer dish in Polish homes. A bowl of warm pasta topped with fresh strawberries and cream, made when strawberries were in season and life felt light.

And then Wimbledon 2025 happened…

The Moment It Became Famous

During Wimbledon interviews, Iga Świątek, the Polish tennis champion, shared that her post-match meal sometimes includes pasta with strawberries and yogurt. To her, it was completely ordinary. A taste of home. A comfort food she grew up with.

To much of the English-speaking world, it sounded shocking. Confusion. Curiosity. Debate. Strawberries… with pasta? Suddenly, a dish many of us had eaten since childhood was making international headlines.

And honestly, I was so happy. I was happy that the rest of the world got to hear and taste something we grew up with. Something simple. Something seasonal. Something that never needed to be trendy to be good.

This dish isn’t trying to impress anyone. It’s just summer in a bowl. And now it belongs to more than just Polish kitchens.

If you try it, you’re not just making pasta with strawberries.
You’re tasting a little piece of the childhood so many of us carry quietly.

And I love that it finally had its moment. 🍓

And because it feels so nostalgic and sweet to me, I even made it for Valentine’s Day once, using heart-shaped pasta. It felt playful and sentimental at the same time. The same childhood flavors, just dressed up a little. And somehow it made perfect sense.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz (250 g) strawberries, fresh or frozen
  • Half a cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or honey
  • 5 oz uncooked pasta
  • Optional: extra fresh strawberries and mint for garnish

That’s it. No exotic ingredients. No complicated techniques. Just real food.

How To Make Polish Strawberry Pasta

  1. Cook the pasta according to package directions.
  2. While the pasta cooks, remove the stems from the strawberries.
  3. Blend the strawberries with yogurt or sour cream and honey or powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
  4. Drain the pasta.
  5. Pour the strawberry mixture over the warm pasta and gently stir.
  6. Add extra sliced strawberries or mint if you’re feeling fancy.

Easy Variations

One of the beautiful things about this dish is how flexible it is.

If you want more protein, you can swap the yogurt for Greek yogurt or even blend the strawberries with cottage cheese for a thicker, creamier texture. It becomes more filling but still keeps that fresh summer flavor.
